Sashiko

Filter
Sashiko is an old Japanese folk embroidery technique. It can be used both to strengthen worn parts of clothes and to decorate them. In the cold conditions of the northern part of Japan, in the old days, the thickness of clothes was increased by quilting fabrics in layers. At the same time, beautiful quilting patterns were created. The fabrics were expensive and hard to come by, so the kimono fabrics were recycled for new use down to the last patch.
