Patchwork workshop for beginners (3 days)

Welcome to the world of quilting! This course is designed for beginners who want to learn the basics of quilting and sew their first quilt. Whether your dream is a wall hanging, baby blanket or pillowcase, this course will guide you step by step to a successful result.

📌 The course consists of three meetings:

1st time – Patchwork basics and first fabric block

• Introduction to quilting
• Materials and tools
• Fabric selection and color matching (color theory)
• Fabric preparation and cutting
• Units of measurement: centimeter or inch?
• Sewing machine settings and operation
• Assembling the first quilt block
• Ironing and seam allowance management

• First time work: Nine patch, Granny square

• Let's plan next week's quilt pattern together with the group.

2nd time – Preparing the group's chosen patchwork

• Review of previous week's blocks
• Reading patchwork instructions and cutting plans
• Cutting the fabric and joining the pieces
• Assembling the patchwork according to the instructions (fabric requirements will be announced at the first meeting)
• Choosing batting and further steps in quilting

3rd time – Finishing and sewing

• Quilting and finishing techniques for a patchwork quilt
• Edge attachment and final details
• Finished work: Pillowcase, tablecloth, wall hanging or small blanket

Course content and objectives

This course is perfect for those of you who have dreamed of quilting but didn't know where to start. We will go over the basic techniques that will help you create beautiful quilts from start to finish. You will learn how to choose and cut fabrics, use a sewing machine for quilting, and assemble your own quilt.

The course also includes a beginner-friendly quilt pattern that you can make into a wall hanging or baby blanket. However, the course content is also suitable for other quilting projects that you can continue later at home.

Materials and supplies

🔹 By adding €25 to the course price, you can get all the fabrics needed for the duvet cover from our store.

🔹 You can also bring your own fabrics:

• 1 piece: 10 x 55 cm
• 2 pieces: 20 x 55 cm or 10 cm full width
• 1 piece: 20 cm of fabric width
• 1 piece: 25 cm of fabric width
• 1 piece: 30 cm of fabric width
• 1 piece: 40 cm of fabric width

With these fabrics you can make 4 35 x 35 cm quilt blocks , from which you can assemble:
✔ Pillowcase
✔ 35 x 140 cm tablecloth
✔ 70 x 70 cm small blanket or wall hanging
✔ Or you can continue adding blocks to a larger quilt

🔹 The second week's work will be finalized with the group, and the necessary fabrics will be announced at the first meeting.

You will also need batting and backing fabric for finishing.
