Hobbs Tuscany Cotton Wool batting is a wonderful blend of 80% fine cotton and 20% superwashed wool. Cotton wool is suitable for both hand and machine quilting and long arm quilting. The structure of the wadding prevents fibers from piling up and shifting.

The wool addition gives the batting a wonderful volume, emphasizing the stitch patterns. It also gives the batting a nice softness and fit without affecting the batting's stability. Wool reduces the formation of permanent folds in your work, as it does not remember folding. Hobbs Tuscany Cotton Wool 80/20 mixed batting is perfect for bedspreads and as a second batting layer for special work (Hobbs Tuscany 100% Wool batting for the back, a favorite of show quilters!).

Hobbs Tuscany Cotton Wool 80/20 mixed wadding is especially suitable for dark velvets and dark fabrics. With light and completely white fabrics, batting wool and unbleached cotton can darken the tone of the work. You should first try the batting with a small test piece with light fabrics to see this change in tone.

The fiber mix of the wadding withstands many washes and softens over time. Gentle machine washing (in cool water with a light program without spinning) and air drying or low temperature drying are recommended.

Quilting work containing batting should be done at least every 10cm (4 inches). 3-5% shrinkage may occur in cotton wool.

We recommend familiarizing yourself with this product before actually using it with small-scale experiments to see how it works when quilting by hand and machine, how it behaves in the wash and with lighter fabrics.

Pre-washing is not recommended for this or our other high-quality cotton products.
