Kantha Cloth – Enchanted Pomegranate KCVW004 | Valori Wells

Enchanted Pomegranate is part of Valori Wells' Kantha Cloth collection, hand-stitched Indian kantha fabric where traditional craftsmanship meets Wells' travel-inspired, woodblock print-based design language. Kantha is a centuries-old South Asian quilting technique where two layers of cotton are hand-stitched together with heavy cotton thread – the result is a unique fabric with a lively texture, each stitcher handling it slightly differently.

The front of the fabric consists of Wells' patterned cotton pieces in a pomegranate theme (shades of red, burgundy, and violet), while the back is a solid, coordinating cotton fabric. The hand-stitching runs lengthwise along the fabric in two thread colors, adding a subtle, handmade rhythm to the surface.

Please note: there is no batting between the two cotton layers of the fabric – it is two thin cotton fabrics joined by hand-stitching. The fabric is therefore not padded or thick, but light and supple, typical of the kantha technique.

Kantha fabric works well for many projects: quilts, bags, tablecloths, pillow covers, jackets, skirts, and even upholstery. The fabric is labor-intensive to produce and special to work with – every meter tells a story of craftsmanship.

Since the fabric is already quilted, it's also excellent for quick projects where you don't want to quilt batting separately: a quilted jacket or vest, tablecloths, table runners, and quick placemats are perfect uses – you get an immediately finished, hand-quilted result without an extra step. Smaller items like bags and pillow covers also work well, since you don't need to buy large quantities at once.

The fabric is sold in 25 cm increments (Quantity 1 = 25 cm full-width piece), but the minimum order quantity is 50 cm. Since the pattern consists of large, hand-quilted squares (approx. 22 cm tall), a smaller order could cut the pattern off mid-square – which is why we recommend, and require, a minimum order of 50 cm to preserve the full pattern. If you order multiple pieces, we aim to ship the fabric as one continuous, uncut piece.
