Olympus Kogin Needles – special needles for traditional Northern Japanese embroidery
Kogin embroidery originates from Aomori Prefecture in Northern Japan, where farming families reinforced the most worn parts of their clothing with dense stitchwork. What was originally a practical repair method evolved over centuries into a beautiful geometric embroidery technique, becoming one of Japan's most revered craft traditions.
Kogin needles are specifically designed for this technique: a long and sturdy body, a large eye for easy threading of even thicker yarns, and a rounded tip that glides between the warp and weft threads of the fabric without damaging them.
Please note: Kogin needles are not sashiko needles — they are specifically designed for kogin embroidery and working with woven fabrics.
Especially suitable for:
- Kogin embroidery
- Visible mending
- Darning and knitwear repair
- Huck embroidery
